The Magical Slow Cooker
I am so excited – recently I had the opportunity to review a colleague’s cookbook! And I knew it would resonate with you because earlier this year, I took a poll asking what type of recipes you would enjoy seeing and the answers were;
- 30 Minutes Meals
- Slow Cooker Meals
- Healthy Recipes
Then a month later the opportunity arose to review a recipe book. The name of it is The Magical Slow Cooker, what great timing!
I received the book a couple of weeks ago and I’ve read thru the entire book (yes….I’m one of those strange people that actually read a recipe book…) and I’ve had the opportunity to make a few of the recipes and though I haven’t made them all, I’d tell you, I highly recommend this recipe book!
The recipe I’d like to share with you today is Sarah’s recipe for Sour Cream Beef Stroganoff
Sour Cream Beef Stroganoff
Beef Stroganoff - The meat came out so tender & succulent, it was perfectly done! I added salt & pepper to suit my taste & served it on a bed of steamed rice.
- 2 lbs cubed beef stew meat
- 1/2 cup diced white onion
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 2 packages brown gravy dry mix 0.87 size
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- Cooked egg noodles or steamed rice and additional sour cream for serving.
- Add the stew meat, onions, and mushrooms to a 4-quart or larger slow cooker.
- Whisk the gravy mixes and the water in a small bowl; pour this into the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.
- Stir in the 1 1/2 cups sour cream and ladle the stroganoff sauce over the noodles or rice.
- Top with more sour cream for garnish.
The meat came out so tender and succulent, it was perfectly done, I added some salt & pepper at the end to suit my taste and served it on a bed of steamed rice.
There was plenty here for 6+ servings, just depending on how large the servings were. We feasted on this for two days and on day three I added all the leftovers, beef stroganoff and the rice to a sauce pan along with a couple cups of beef stock and made (you guessed it!) a delicious beef stroganoff soup! I always love a meal that can be transformed!
Ok….back to the book. If this is something you are interested in the book contains ideas for breakfast & brunch, side dishes, party food, chilies, soups & stews, main dishes and even desserts! Sarah did a great job of including a recipe for many occasions. Interested? You can find it on Amazon by clicking this link The Magical Slow Cooker it is $15.89.
Full disclosure, yes I received a copy of the book, but regardless I would recommend this book to my family & friends. Great AND easy recipes without a bunch of complicated ingredients? Gotta love that! Give this recipe a try and let me know what YOU think!
p.s. I thought of one thing I wanted to add after I published this blog….the pictures are GREAT and the printing quite large which makes reading/cooking so much easier!
