FAQ's

What makes a Smashburger special?

The key to a great Smashburger is in the name - you want to make sure you smash it! This creates a nice crust on the outside of the burger that seals in all the juices and flavors.

What is the difference between a smash burger and a regular burger?

A regular burger is usually just cooked on a grill or in a pan, while a smash burger is smashed onto the grill or into the pan giving it a crispy crust.

Burger sauce tips

This creamy sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week, making it a great prep-ahead option for busy days. Just give it a good stir before using in case anything has settled.

When it's time to build your burger, go with an 80/20 ground beef patty for the juiciest, tastiest results. Top with melty American cheese, a few slices of red onion, and some sweet pickles, then slather this sauce on the bun-it takes everything over the top!

Ingredient swaps

  • A splash of Tabasco sauce or Sriracha sauce adds a nice zing to the burger sauce!
  • For a little bit of sweetness, try adding a teaspoon or two of honey.
  • If you want a creamier sauce, add some sour cream or Greek yogurt.

Top your burger with

  • I love putting dill pickles on my homemade smash burgers, this time I'm changing up my burger recipe and using this Refrigerator Pickles recipe instead. These pickles make the best burgers if you ask me!
  • This easy-to-make Tomato Relish is the perfect condiment for all burgers!

Serve with

  • This is a great dipping sauce for onions rings and French fries, crispy smashed potatoes, fries or sweet potato wedges. Slather it on the top bun of a patty melt.
  • Use this great homemade sauce on top of a traditional burger like this Air Fryer Burgers recipe. You don't even need to stand outside in the heat to make this ultimate burger recipe!
  • Surprise your family with something different by pairing these Spicy Chick-fil-a Chicken Tenders with french fries for dinner. And use this secret sauce as your dipping sauce. It's a nice twist on a regular fast food meal.
  • Did you forget to take the burger patties out of the freezer last night? Don't worry! You can cook frozen hamburger patties in the oven and then top them with this tasty smash sauce.

Wrapping it up

Not only is this a Great burger sauce, but also great as a dipping sauce; especially for chicken tenders. Like Wayne mentioned earlier; I also decided to put in a pinch of fresh dill.

Same sauce that I use to mix in with my ground chicken burgers; except I do add 1 can of Well drained RoTel to my ground up chicken meat; reserving 1/4 cup of of the RoTel to mix in with a small patch of the sauce to spread on toasted bun for my chicken burger. Now, if making a large batch of sauce I would use 1 can of RoTel that has been very well drained.
Note: The RoTel Must be very, very well drained. . . it's a must not to have any of the liquid remaining.

How do you call throwing together ultra-processed industrial sauces 'a recipe' is beyond me.

If you’re whipping up homemade mayo on the regular—respect. But for most of us, a recipe that uses what’s already in the fridge and tastes amazing is a win. This Smashburger Sauce is all about big flavor without the fuss. It’s not trying to impress food critics—just feed real people. You do you.

The only thing that I add is a splash of hot sauce to the sauce.
