This Breaded Fish Stick Casserole recipe is a delicious weeknight meal your whole family will love! Made with just a few simple ingredients, it’s a quick and easy dinner option that’s sure to please everyone.

That spoonful of relish with the mayonnaise gives the sauce a tartar sauce taste that's the perfect combination with the fish.

  • frozen shredded hash brown potatoes
  • cream of chicken soup
  • mayonnaise you can substitute with sour cream if you prefer.
  • lemon juice or lime juice
  • sweet pickle relish
  • dry ranch dressing
  • shredded cheese
  • frozen fish sticks - I used gorton’s fish sticks.

  1. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare baking dish, set aside.
  2. In large mixing bowl, stir together well the soups, mayonnaise, relish, lemon juice, dry ranch dressing mix and 1 cup cheese. Fold in potatoes.
  3. Spoon into prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. Sprinkle the top of the potato mixture with the remaining shredded cheese.
  5. Top with as many fish sticks as you can fit, covering top of the casserole dish.
  6. Place uncovered in preheated oven and bake until bubbly and fish sticks are lightly browned, about 35-40 minutes.
  7. Let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Are frozen fish sticks precooked?

Yes, most frozen fish sticks are precooked. You will just need to heat them through in the oven on the casserole before serving.

How long do I need to cook frozen fish sticks?

For this recipe, you will need to cook the frozen fish sticks for about 35-40 minutes.

How can you tell if fish sticks are undercooked?

Undercooked fish sticks will be pale in color and may have a rubbery texture.

Things to know

  • Be sure to spray your casserole dish well with nonstick cooking spray that so clean-up is a breeze.
  • For additional flavor, you can sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on the top.
  • If you want a little more flavor to your creamy sauce you can add black pepper, garlic powder, fresh dill, and onion powder.
  • The fish sticks should be golden brown and crispy when you remove this casserole from the oven.
  • Be sure to thaw the hash browns. The easiest way take them from the refrigerator and place them in the fridge the night before.
  • Since the main ingredient is the fish, purchase the best fish sticks you can afford.
  • Place a baking sheet under the casserole to catch any drips and help keep your oven clean.

Variations

  • Add in some chopped vegetables or frozen vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, celery, etc to stretch this fish stick casserole recipe.
  • Try using a different type of cheese such as cheddar, mozzarella, or swiss cheese.
  • Switch up the breaded fish sticks – you could use breaded shrimp, crab cakes, or even chicken nuggets!
  • If you want a little bit of a crunch, you could add crushed-up crackers or a seasoned breadcrumb mixture to the top of the casserole.
  • For a spicy take on this casserole add hot sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Out of cream of chicken soup? Cream of mushroom soup or even cheddar cheese soup can be used instead.
  • A splash of worcestershire sauce and a teaspoon dill weed to the sauce prior to baking is yummy!

Storage

Refrigerate - You can store this Fish Stick Casserole in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Freezer - To freeze, first wrap the casserole dish tightly with plastic wrap. Then, wrap again with aluminum foil. Label and date the casserole, then place in the freezer for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, thaw in the fridge overnight and then bake as directed.

Reheat - Leftovers can be reheated in the oven, covered, at 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes or until heated through.

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
