Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)
If the shrimp has the shell on, start by removing it. It's easy just peel off the shell. Remove the vein, running down the length of the body. Rinse, pat dry with paper towels.
Removing the tails is totally up to you. There's no hard/fast rules. If you want to remove the tail, just pinch it off at the base.
Don't overcook, and they will be juicy every time!
It depends on the size of the shrimp. Larger shrimp take longer, and smaller shrimp less time. Start with 2-3 minutes per side.
Shrimp is done when it turns opaque with a tinge of pink. The shrimp is rubbery because you overcooked it.
Deb's tips for the perfect dish
Don't overcook the shrimp. Overcooked it turns rubbery, tough and dry. It only takes 2-3 minutes per side to fry or grill shrimp.
- Everyone is going to tell you fresh shrimp is best, however there's nothing wrong with frozen shrimp. Thaw it on ice, in the refrigerator the day you're going to use it.
How to store leftovers
Refrigerate - I prefer to keep shrimp in the refrigerator no more than a day. I don't recommend freezing leftovers, either. Store in an airtight container.
Reheat on the stovetop in a skillet.
