FAQ's

Why is my tuna noodle casserole dry?

If your tuna noodle casserole is dry, you may need to add more milk or cream to the mixture. You can also try adding a few slices of butter on top before cooking it in the slow cooker.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble all of the ingredients the night before. Hold off on adding the french fried onions, until you're ready to cook the meal. Cover and store it in the fridge until you are ready to cook it.

Should I use a slow cooker liner?

You can use a slow cooker liner if you prefer, I like to spray the crockpot with cooking spray instead.

Top Tip

Cook the noodles to al dente according to the package directions. Each pasta cooks differently, so check the timing for your brand.

  • Be sure to stir the ingredients well before cooking. This helps ensure that all flavors are distributed evenly throughout the casserole.
  • Add a ½ cup of evaporated milk if you want a creamier casserole.
  • Add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños to the mix for more heat.

Storage

Refrigerate - Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Freezer - To freeze the casserole, allow it to cool completely before transferring to a freezer-safe bag or container. Check this out for more tips on freezing tuna noodle casserole.

Reheat - To reheat, place the casserole in a greased baking dish and cover with foil. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes until heated through. Or microwave single servings until warm all the way through.

Hi, this recipe is delicious. I'm making it again but kept getting sidetracked so it will now be late if I put in on for 4 hours on low- can it be cooked on high for 2 hours or so? Thank you!!!

Ooh, that's a great question. I haven't cooked it on high below. My only concern is mushy pasta, so I would try that, but check the pasta at the 1 1/2 hour mark to check on how done they are. If it's tender you're set! If not continue for another 30 minutes and check again. Enjoy Danielle!

So that’s the best tuna nuna I ever made! I used one can of cream of mushroom and one can of cream of chicken with mushroom, and half and half instead of evaporated milk. This was phenomenal!

My family hates peas. What substitute would you recommend? Or just eliminate the peas and serve a vegetable side dish instead?

You could use chopped fresh asparagus, that would be lovely! Or skip the veggies altogether. Enjoy the recipe Jackie!
