Slow cooker chicken with rich mushroom gravy

What makes this dish so hard to resist is the way everything comes together into one glossy, savory sauce that clings to every bite. The Montreal seasoning adds just enough bold flavor to keep it interesting, and those little packets of gravy give the sauce body without any extra work on your part.

This is the kind of slow cooker meal that tastes like you hovered over the stove all afternoon - even though the crockpot did the heavy lifting. It's dependable, hands-off, and delivers that rich, homestyle flavor every single time. Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

Is this recipe salty with the gravy packets and soup?

It can be on the savory side. If you're sensitive to salt, use low-sodium chicken broth and taste the sauce before adding any extra seasoning. You can always add more, but you can't take it out.

How do I keep the sauce from getting too thin?

If your sauce seems thinner than you'd like, remove the lid during the last 20-30 minutes of cooking to let it reduce slightly. You can also stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water) and cook on high for 15-20 minutes to thicken it up.

The key to lump-free gravy

Whisk the gravy packets thoroughly into the broth before adding it to the slow cooker. If the dry mix isn't fully dissolved, it can clump during cooking and leave little pockets of seasoning. A smooth, fully blended sauce at the start gives you a silkier finish at the end.

Repurpose your leftovers

Leftovers might be the best part of this meal, especially when you give them a little glow-up. For an easy open-faced hot chicken sandwich, toast thick slices of bread, pile on the shredded chicken, and spoon plenty of that savory sauce right over the top. If you really want to lean into comfort-food territory, add a scoop of mashed potatoes before drizzling on more sauce. It's hearty, comforting and tastes like something you'd order at a small-town diner.

Or turn it into a shortcut chicken pot pie. Stir in a handful of frozen mixed vegetables, pour everything into a baking dish, and top with refrigerated pie crust or crescent roll dough. Bake until golden and bubbly, and you've transformed leftovers into a whole new dinner that feels planned from the start.

All three are simple, dependable crockpot dinners made with everyday ingredients - the kind you can set in the morning and feel good about serving at night!

What to serve with Golden Mushroom Chicken

This cozy crockpot chicken is all about giving that savory sauce a place to land. Spoon it generously over creamy mashed potatoes, fluffy white rice, or buttery egg noodles so every bite is coated. It's equally delicious piled onto a baked potato or even thick slices of toast for a comfort-food spin.

Add a simple green salad, steamed green beans, or roasted carrots on the side to balance the richness and you've got a complete, satisfying dinner without any extra fuss.

A recipe worth making again
