Ingredients

  • 1 ham about 6 pounds ham.
  • 1 ½ cups packed light brown sugar divided
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 20 ounces canned pineapple chunks in 100% pineapple juice undrained

Instructions

  • Place ½ cup of brown sugar in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Unpack the ham, rinse and pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Place the ham face down on the brown sugar.
  • I used a bone-in ham, so I score the top of the ham. If you are using a spiral ham you don't need to do this step.
  • Coat the top of the ham with Dijon mustard and sprinkle ground cloves.
  • Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar on top of the ham.
  • Add the pineapple chunks with the pineapple juice around the side of the pineapple.
  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 ½ hours or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.

Notes

*NOTE* The ham I used for this recipe was 6 pounds. The weight of the ham will impact the cooking time.
Refrigerate - Leftover ham can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container. Ham will last up in the freezer, up to 2 months.
Reheating instruction - Place leftovers on a microwave-safe plate and heat in 30 second intervals until hot throughout. Or, to reheat a ham in the oven, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Place the ham on a baking sheet and cover with foil. Bake for 20 minutes per pound or until it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.

    FAQ's

Will ham dry out in crockpot?

Cooking ham in a slow cooker is one of the best ways to ensure it doesn't dry out. The even heat and moist environment of the slow cooker help keep the ham tender and juicy while it cooks.

Can you heat a fully cooked ham in the slow cooker?

Yes, you can heat a fully cooked ham in the slow cooker. It is important to note that most hams are already pre-cooked before they are sold, so all you need to do is warm it up and add your favorite flavors. Cooking time will vary based on the size of the ham so always check for an internal temperature of 145 degrees f.

How much do I need per person?

For a holiday gathering, plan on ¾ to 1 pound of ham per person. For smaller crowds, you can get away with ½ pound per person.  This will make sure that you have plenty of leftovers.

    Things to know

    • If you are cooking a bone-in ham, you can score the top of the ham before cooking. This helps it absorb more of the sweet glaze and seasonings.
    • Make sure that your ham fits into your slow cooker before you start cooking it. Now this kinda goes without saying, right? But I'm speaking from experience! 🤣
    • Always check for an internal temperature of 145 degrees F to ensure that your ham is warmed through.
    • For additional flare, you can top this slow cooker ham recipe with pineapple rings or pineapple slices.
    • Keep in mind that if you're using a small ham or a different size of ham you may need to adjust the cooking time.

    Variations

    • You could also use maple syrup, honey or in some orange juice or chopped fresh oranges. One of my favorites is a brown sugar glaze!
    • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg to increase the flavor.
    • If you want a crispy outside to your ham, you can also transfer it to a baking sheet and place it under the broiler for a few minutes.
    • You could also use a spiral cut ham or boneless ham for this easy recipe.
    • Fresh pineapple chunks can be used instead of canned if you prefer. Maraschino cherries add a pretty touch!
