Ingredients you’ll need
For the exact measurements, please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- You can use fresh or frozen chicken wings. If they are not thawed, you may need to parboil them 2-3 more minutes.
- The seasonings you'll need are chili powder, garlic salt, seasoning salt, pepper.
- Your favorite bbq sauce, I use store-bought Sweet Baby Ray's. I love the flavor of that sauce.
- <armalade jam - homemade is great, store-bought works well too.
- Franks RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce or your favorite hot sauce.
Creative variations to try
No chicken wings? No problem! You can also use this recipe to make homemade chicken nuggets. Just dice 2-3 chicken breast into "nuggets" and follow directions below.
If you have a favorite hot sauce, feel free to substitute a good zesty sauce! The buffalo sauce has a good vinegary bite and that's why it works so well in this recipe.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)
Drumettes (that look like tiny chicken legs) and the flats, which is the piece with two small bones running through it.
These are boiled for 10 minutes and broiled for another 15-20.
Blue cheese dip, of course! Crunchy celery, carrots and radishes are terrific as well.

Deb's top tips
Be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand. They are sticky and messy, but lick-your-fingers good!
- If you are using whole wings, I suggest separating them at the joint and discarding the wing tip. (Or save it if you're making chicken stock at a later point.)
- Pile them on a big platter, add some celery, green onion, sliced cucumbers and celery. Adding the veggies isn't just to make you feel better....it cuts thru the richness of the wings.
How to store leftovers
Refrigerate - Leftovers? You seriously have any leftover? Never happened here 😋 but if it did.... store leftover chicken wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator 3-4 days.
Freezer - Well wrapped and stored in an airtight container, freeze up to three months.
Reheat - Reheat in the microwave or by baking in the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes. Or just serve cold, that's what I do!

Sticky BBQ Chicken Wings Recipe
Ingredients
- 10-14 chicken wings
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Wing Sauce
- 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
- ½ cup marmalade jam (homemade if you have itbut store bought is just fine too!)
- ¼ cup Franks RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce
- Optional - serve with blue cheese dipping sauce and ranch sauce, along with celery stalks and carrots.
Instructions
- Add the wings to a large sauce pan. Add the seasonings; chili powder, garlic salt, seasoning salt and pepper. Add enough water to cover the wings. Set the pot on the stove over high heat, uncovered and bring to a boil, reduce to a low boil for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and drain well. Parboiling keeps the wings succulent and tender, not dry! This is easy and so much better than deep-frying! Pat the cooked wings dry with a paper towel.
- While the wings are boiling, prepare the sauce. Combine the BBQ sauce, buffalo hot wings sauce and marmalade jam in a sauce plan. Place over low heat. Cook for 5 minutes, just love enough for the ingredients to be well combined.
- Remove the wing sauce from the heat and transfer it to a large bowl.
- Toss the wings in the sauce until they are completely coated. Place the wings out on a broiler pan lined with foil (if you want to make cleaning easier) or spray with a non-stick cooking spray.
- Broil them for about 9-10 minutes on side one. brush them with additional sauce, flip, again adding more sauce. Broil side two, about 7-8 minutes or until they have great caramelization. Basting occasionally.
- Serve with blue cheese dipping sauce, enjoy!
