FAQ's
Chicken-flavored seasoning is usually a blend of garlic powder, onion powder, dried sage, fresh ground black pepper, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and chipotle powder. However, it can also include other herbs and spices like oregano and thyme.
And, it also depends on how spicy you want your dish to be. Generally, it's best to start with 1 teaspoon per pound of meat and adjust from there.
This seasoning can be used on any cut of chicken, including chicken thighs, skinless chicken breasts, and whole rotisserie chicken.
Deb's tips
- The best thing about making homemade spice blends like this is that you can adjust the seasoning to suit your taste buds so feel free to get creative.
- If you want to use this as a rub, I recommend coating your meat in a little olive oil before you sprinkle on the seasoning. This is especially true you are making a whole rotisserie chicken with this seasoning.
- It's very important to keep dried herbs like this away from direct sunlight, as sunlight can cause them to lose flavor and their delicious taste.
- When cooking with chicken, it's always important that you make sure that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
Variations
- Instead of smoked paprika, you can use regular sweet paprika if you are not a fan of the smoked taste.
- You could also increase the heat level of this seasoning by adding more cayenne pepper to your homemade seasoning.
- If you are a garlic lover, you can add a little bit more garlic powder to your seasoning for some extra flavor.
Storage
Storage - Store in an airtight container like a small jar or spice jar in a cool dark place for up to 6 months.
