What makes this recipe irresistible

This is an easy recipe and only requires three ingredients. Making these at home is so much cheaper than the store-bought kind! (And they taste better too!!) You can easily change the toppings to suit your holiday or party theme.

Ingredients to make the candy recipe. With print overlay for clarification.

Ingredients you’ll need

Please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for the exact measurements.

Creative variations to try

  •  Instead of candy canes, sprinkle crushed nuts, coconut flakes, or crushed cookies on top of the white chocolate.
  • Use different types of pretzels such as pretzel rods, pretzel snap, or full sized twists for variety.
  • For a savory twist, try using dark chocolate chips and then top it with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, yum!!
  •  If you want to add some extra flavor, try mixing some peppermint extract into the melted white chocolate for a festive twist.
  • You can also use colored candy melts or different types of chocolate such as milk chocolate for variety.

This is an overview of the instructions. For complete directions, scroll down to the bottom.

    Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)

Do you have to refrigerate chocolate dipped pretzels?

Yes, they are best kept in the refrigerator, or freezer. If left out the chocolate gets sticky.

Why are my chocolate covered pretzels not hardening?

Not to worry, refrigerate or freeze them. They will harden in about 20 minutes.

Can I add butter to the white chocolate to help it melt?

Absolutely not! The butter will cause the chocolate to seize. To assist in melting to thin out the chocolate use canola oil, coconut oil or vegetable oil.

Deb’s tips for the perfect dish

Be sure to stir the chocolate between each interval while microwaving. You don't want the chocolate to scorch!

    • Adding a tablespoon of shortening or coconut oil to help thin out the chocolate for easier dipping.
    • I've found that using a fork will allow the excess chocolate to drip off the pretzel giving you a smoother finish.
    • If you find that your chocolate is hardening while you are dipping the pretzels, return it to the microwave for another 15-20 seconds to smooth it out.

    Ingredients

    • wax paper
    • 1 pound white chocolate chips or white chocolate melting wafers
    • 40 pretzels
    • 6-8 candy canes crushed

    Instructions

    • Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside. Place the candy canes in a ziplock bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the candy canes and pour into a small bowl.
    • Next, place the white chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Melt the chocolate in the microwave: Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. It will only take about 1 ½ minutes.
    • Dip each pretzel into the melted white chocolate using a fork or tongs, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess chocolate to drip off. Place on wax paper.
    • While the white chocolate is still soft, sprinkle crushed candy canes over the pretzels. The warmth of the chocolate will help the candy cane pieces adhere.
    • Let the white chocolate-covered pretzels with crushed candy canes cool and harden. You can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes.

I can't wait to make these for our Christmas Day celebration. Instead of cooking a big meal. Everyone brings finger foods and a quick treat. My family loves peppermint too!

I'd like to think that these are diet friendly with the pretzels. At least that is what I tell myself. Definitely a treat for the season.

My Mom really likes chocolate covered ANYTHING!!! We will need to try this recipe. One time we made striped prezels using white and chocolate melts. Then we used some sprinkles. They were gone by the next day.

I just came home from grocery shopping today and bought these pretzels and candy canes to make these very same white chocolate covered pretzels. I also have chocolate to use for another batch.
