Variations

You could shape these into twelve mini sausage rolls instead of large ones if you prefer. Reduce the cooking time to 15 to 17 minutes or until your sausage is done.

FAQ's

How do you keep the sausage rolls from getting a soggy bottom?

Baking on a parchment paper lined baking tray helps prevent sticking and keeps the bottoms from getting soggy.

What pastry are sausage rolls made from?

I used puff pastry for this recipe.

Do you roll out ready-made puff pastry?

No, you do not need to roll out the pastry with a rolling pin. Just cut it into rectangles and then proceed with the recipe.

Should you egg-wash puff pastry?

Yes, you'll want to egg-wash the puff pastry once you have it stuffed. It browns and also give it a nice sheen.

Top Tip

I really recommend using parchment paper on your baking sheet. It really does help your bottom crisp up nicely. However, if you don't have it on hand you can use nonstick cooking spray instead.

  • Make sure your puff pastry sheets are completely thawed before making this recipe.

Storage

Refrigerate -Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freezer - You can make these ahead of time and freeze them. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about an hour. Then transfer to a freezer-safe bag and store for up to 3 months. When you are ready to bake, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed.

Reheat - These are best reheated in the oven. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 400ºF for about 10 minutes.
