What makes this recipe irresistible

Easy, cheesy and topped with golden brown, crispy tots, this is an easy recipe! Keep these ingredients in your pantry and freezer, so when you're asked.... what's for dinner? You'll have it covered!

It's a great go-to meal any day of the week!

Ingredients needed to make the casserole dish. With print overlay for clarification.

What you’ll need: ingredients

Please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for the exact measurements.

  • frozen tater tots
  • ground beef
  • white or yellow onion
  • frozen mixed vegetables
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • soy sauce
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • mozzarella cheese - or you can use other cheeses; cheddar, pepper jack or a blend of your favorites.
  • fresh parsley or chives (optional garnish)

Creative variations to try

I prefer to use lean ground beef or ground chuck. For a lighter option, try ground turkey or chicken.

You can use fresh or frozen vegetables based on what you have on hand.

Swap regular tater tots for sweet potato tater tots. So yummy and you're sneaking a few more hidden veggies into your meal!

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

You can prepare the beef and vegetable mixture and assemble the pie up to 1 day in advance. Cover it tightly and refrigerate. When ready to bake, add the tater tots and bake as directed.

What if I want it saucy?

If you prefer a saucy meat mixture, add a cream soup and a ½ cup of milk. You can use cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, celery or potato.

Can I add more vegetables to the pie?

Feel free to add more vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini. Just make sure to cook them thoroughly before adding to the pie.

Deb's tips for the perfect dish

For an even cooked topping, make sure to arrange the tater tots in a single layer without overlapping.

How to store leftovers

Refrigerate - Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freezer - This dish freezes well. To freeze, let it cool completely, then cover tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.

Reheat - Though you can use the microwave to reheat individual dishes, it will reheat best in the oven. It crisps up the tots so nicely! It will take 20-25 minutes.
