Why you'll love this recipe

This is a recipe I've had in my recipe box for years. It's about time I put it on the blog. I love it because it so super simple and tastes great.

Say "bye-bye" to dry, tough meat. Slow-cooking a pork tenderloin is one of the best ways to ensure it comes out fall-apart tender. You'll love the easy recipe when time is short, but you still want a great meal!

All of the ingredients needed to make the slow cooker recipe. With print overlay for clarification.

Ingredients

Please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for the exact measurements.

  • honey
  • teriyaki glaze
  • Montreal steak seasoning
  • pork tenderloins, about 1 pound each

Feel free to toss in some vegetables to make dinner prep even easier. Bell peppers, onions, thinly sliced carrots, and broccoli all taste great with teriyaki pork! You can even add fresh fruit like pineapple for a Hawaiian spin.

If you want to amp up the flavor even more, feel free to add minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and fresh/ground ginger to the sauce mixture.

Finally, if you're in the mood for teriyaki but don't love pork, you can make this recipe with chicken thighs! However, you'll need to use the high setting and bump up the cooking time to about three hours.

Step-by-step instructions to make the slow cooker recipe. With print overlay for clarification.

Instructions

This is an overview of the instructions. For complete directions, scroll down to the bottom.

  1. Add oil, soy sauce, and steak seasoning to the bottom of the slow cooker and whisk together.
  2. Add pork; turn to coat.
  3. Cover and cook on low until a thermometer inserted in the pork reads 145°, 1-¾ to 2-¼ hours.
  4. Remove from crockpot and allow to rest lightly covered with foil for 10 minutes before slicing.

FAQ's

What's the difference between pork loin and pork tenderloin?

Pork tenderloin is longer and thinner than pork loin (which is usually sold as a wider, thicker hunk of meat.) Tenderloin is generally leaner, milder in flavor, and—you guessed it—more tender!

Can I swap pork tenderloin for pork loin?

Nope! The differences in size will throw off the cooking time. Pork loin takes much longer to cook.

Can I put frozen meat directly into a slow cooker?

The Crockpot manual warns against putting frozen meat directly into a slow cooker as it can result in uneven cooking and potentially harmful bacteria growth. Since this recipe has a shorter cooking time, it's best to thaw the meat in the refrigerator overnight first.

Is brown sugar a good substitute for honey?

Not always, but in this recipe, it works! Brown sugar is a tasty substitute for Crockpot teriyaki pork tenderloin if you're out of honey.

Top Tip

Letting the pork rest before cutting is an important step! It allows the juices to disperse back into the meat so that each bite is packed with moisture—instead of running all over your cutting board!

  • Don't overcook the pork, or it will dry out. Use an instant-read thermometer for the best results!
  • This makes a great freezer meal! Combine the ingredients in a large ziplock bag and freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Cook as directed.

Storage

Refrigerate—Allow crockpot teriyaki pork tenderloin to cool to room temperature. Then, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Freezer—Store cooled pork in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months.

Reheat—Let your pork thaw in the refrigerator overnight (if frozen). Then, reheat in the microwave in short bursts or in the oven (covered with foil) at 350 degrees F until heated through.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 cup teriyaki stir fry sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • 2 pork tenderloins 1 pound each
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • optional garnish: sesame seeds, and 1 green onion

Instructions

  • Spray crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Add pork to the crockpot.
  • In a measuring cup or bowl, whisk together honey and teriyaki sauce. Pour over the tenderloins. Sprinkle with lemon pepper seasoning.
  • Cover and cook on low for 2-2 ⅕ hours or until a thermometer inserted in the pork reads 145 degrees.
  • Remove from crockpot and allow to rest, covered with foil.
  • Whisk the cornstarch and cold water together. Pour into the crockpot and whisk to combine. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes.
  • Slice the tenderloin and spoon the velvety sauce over the top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions.

Notes

I used the stir fry sauce (as opposed to a glaze or marinade) because it's a little thicker, less salty and makes for a more flavorful sauce.
