Published: Feb 5, 2026 by Debra Clark · Leave a Comment

Jump to Recipe Pin Recipe

Boursin Orzo Bake is about to earn a spot on your repeat list. The orzo goes straight into the oven with chicken stock, olive oil, and seasoning. No babysitting or constant stirring! A whole wheel of Boursin melts right into the middle like it was born for this moment. The texture lands somewhere between silky pasta and cozy risotto.

What you'll make this on repeat

This is a great weeknight recipe because everything goes into one dish and the oven takes care of the rest. I love recipes where you can toss everything together, set the timer, and come back to a warm creamy pasta perfection. The flavors balance each other beautifully!

Sun-dried tomatoes bring a little richness and tang, the spinach softens right into the mix, and suddenly dinner feels comforting, fresh, and very "why don't I make this every week?

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 casserole dish

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups uncooked orzo
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • ¾ cup sun dried tomatoes chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 5.3 ounce wheel Boursin cheese
  • 4 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cups baby spinach roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Use an oven safe dish large enough to hold the liquid and pasta. A medium casserole dish works perfectly.
  • Pour the uncooked orzo into the baking dish. Add the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the chopped sun dried tomatoes over the top. Pour the olive oil over the mixture and gently stir everything to coat the orzo.
  • Place the whole wheel of Boursin cheese in the center of the baking dish, right on top of the orzo. No need to break it up. It will melt beautifully in the oven.
  • Slowly add the chicken stock around the cheese, making sure the orzo is mostly submerged. Give the mixture a gentle stir but leave the cheese sitting in the center.
Uncooked orzo and sun-dried tomatoes layered in a white casserole dish with seasonings, stock and olive oil.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and place the dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The orzo should absorb most of the liquid and become tender. The Boursin will soften into a creamy puddle on top.

  • Remove the dish from the oven. Add the chopped spinach on top. Stir the entire dish well so the melted Boursin mixes with the orzo and the spinach wilts from the heat. The texture should be creamy, cozy, and a little saucy. If the pasta seems stick, add an additional ¼ cup of chicken stock. Allow to stand, loosely covered with foil for 5-10 minutes prior to serving.

Notes

If you prefer a creamier pasta, add a ¼ of heavy cream to the pasta before cooking. No need to reduce the amount of chicken stock.
Store leftovers covered in the fridge up to 3 days. I don't recommend freezing orzo pasta because it gets mushy when it's frozen.

Mix-ins and swaps

For a spicy twist, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. Leftover roasted vegetables, like zucchini, mushrooms or roasted red peppers will fold right in and and add flavor without changing the texture.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

Can I substitute a different type of cheese?

Actually yes! You can use cream cheese, goat cheese or an herbed cheese if you'd prefer.

Can I use water instead of chicken stock?

No, I don't recommend it. The flavor will be bland.

What do I do if the pasta seems stiff?

Add an additional splash of chicken stock and give it a stir.

Deb's top tips

Take five seconds to level out the orzo so it's evenly sitting in the liquid. A quick level-out with a spoon before covering the dish makes all the difference and gives you that silky, risotto-like texture all the way through. No dry patches, no drama, just creamy pasta from edge to edge!

What to make next

If this Boursin Orzo Bake is your kind of dinner, there are a few more easy pasta wins you'll want to keep handy.  One Pot Chicken Alfredo with Peas creamy pasta with tender chicken and a pop of green, all in a single pan. Cream Cheese Pasta leans rich and satisfying with minimal effort, (and affordability!) making it a solid choice for busy nights.

And if you're craving something a just as cheesy, the Panera Chicken Tortellini brings that familiar café-style flavor straight to your kitchen...no takeout line required! All easy, all reliable, and all very happy to land on your weekly meal plan.

Make it a meal

This pairs well with simple sides that won't steal the spotlight. A crisp green salad or roasted broccoli adds a little freshness, while garlic bread or warm rolls are great for scooping up every last bit of that creamy sauce. If you want to add protein, rotisserie chicken or roasted shrimp work well and keep the meal easy without adding extra steps.

One last thing

This is one of those recipes that quietly earns its place in the dinner rotation. It's simple, flexible, and does exactly what you want it to do without a lot of fuss. Whether you keep it as written or toss in what you've got on hand, it's the kind of meal that makes weeknights feel manageable.

If you give it a try, I'd love to hear how you made it your own-leave a comment or rating so others can jump in with confidence too.
