Please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for the exact measurements.

  • white sugar
  • light corn syrup
  • I use creamy peanut butter in this recipe, but chunky peanut butter tastes great too!
  • Cheerios cereal - honey nut, multigrain or regular Cheerios.
  • lightly salted peanuts

Creative variations to try

  • Not a fan of peanut butter? Try using almond butter, sunflower seed butter, or cashew butter instead.
  • For a chocolate lover's twist, add some semisweet or dark chocolate chips to your cereal mixture. Chopped pecans are another great addition.
  • I have a friend that added a couple tablespoons of tahini to the bars. That was delicious!

Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

How can I remove cereal bars easily from the pan?

If you want to get smooth evenly cut bars then line your baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper and give that parchment paper a spray of nonstick cooking spray. Then you can remove the entire pan at one time for even cutting.

What type of Cheerios should I use for peanut butter Cheerios bars?

Many folks use original Cheerios however, you can use multigrain, or I prefer Honey Nut Cheerios!

Can I add anything else to this recipe?

Yes, once you press the bars into your baking dish, you can add shredded coconut, M&M's, or sprinkles to the top of the bars.

Deb's tips for the perfect dish

Spray the back of your spoon with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the mixture from sticking. It will make it easier to spread it into an even layer in the pan.

  • Make sure you spray the baking dish so your bars do not stick. However, you could also line it with parchment paper for easy removal and cutting.
  •  When pressing the cereal mixture into the baking dish, spread it evenly and press firmly. This will ensure that your bars hold together and don't fall apart.

How to store leftovers
