  • chicken broth
  • boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • lemon pepper seasoning

Delicious variations to try

  • Make this chicken Mexican style by adding taco seasoning instead of the lemon pepper seasoning. Add some spice to your chicken with a dash of chili powder, chipotle peppers, or hot sauce.
  • You can also add more flavor to this chicken by adding onion powder, or onions to the pot.
  • Substitute barbecue sauce or coconut milk for the chicken stock, and you'd have a whole new dish!

Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

What is the best way to shred a chicken breast?

There are a few ways that you can shred chicken. I like to use two forks and just pull the chicken apart that way. You could also use a hand mixer or even a food processor if you want to get really fine shreds of chicken.

What chicken is best for shredding?

I like to use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe, but you could also use boneless skinless chicken thighs. If you are using bone-in chicken, you will need to cook it for a bit longer.

Should you shred chicken hot or cold?

That's completely up to you! I prefer to shred my chicken while it is still hot so that the shreds are nice and moist.

Top Tip

I recommend seasoning the chicken before you add the chicken broth so that some of the seasonings stick to the chicken breast.

How to store leftovers

Refrigerate - Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up three days.

How to freeze - Freeze cooked and shredded chicken in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Reheating instructions - When ready to eat, reheat on the stove over medium heat until warmed. You can also reheat it in the microwave, but be careful not to overcook it, or the chicken will dry out.
