These Heart-Shaped Rice Krispie Treats are the a great "I Love You" Valentine's Day treat! Not only are these crispy treats delicious but they are also easy to make!

Heart shaped Rice Krispies 

Fun, festive and so easy to make. Like the White Chocolate Covered Strawberries, these are an excellent no-bake Valentine's dessert recipe and the perfect sweet treats! This is classic recipe that the entire family loves!

  • butter - use real butter, not margarine.
  • marshmallows - you can use regular or mini marshmallows.
  • Rice Krispie cereal - the real thing or the generic brands, either work great! You can also use cheerios or Chex cereal.
  • Festive colored Valentine's Day sprinkles.

Can I freeze rice krispie treats?

Yes! These homemade treats can be frozen for up to 3 months.

How long does rice krispie treats last?

These easy treats will stay fresh for up to one week if kept in an airtight container at room temperature.

What kind of sprinkles work best?

You can use your favorites - nonpareil sprinkles (the small round balls), jimmies (the long thin ones) or the small heart shaped. All work great.

Can you melt the marshmallows in the microwave?

Yes, you can melt the marshmallows in the microwave. Be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval.

Top Tip

Pro Tip - clip the parchment paper with butterfly clips, it will secure it well and make its super easy to remove the Rice Krispies from the pan.

  • If you are using your hands to press the rice krispies down into the cake pan, spray your hands with cooking spray first.
  • Make a double batch of these valentine treats, they are sure to go fast!
  • After you cut out all the heart shapes, press the edges and leftovers together and flatten - just like you would when you're making cut out cookies. Reshape and cut out more heart shaped valentine treats!

Creative variations to try

  • Can't find any sprinkles? Add pink or violet food coloring to the marshmallow mixture - gorgeous!
  • You can use any type of sprinkles you like to decorate the top, common Valentine's day colors are red, pink, white, and/or silver.
  • Add chopped nuts to the top while they are still soft for a little extra crunch!
  • For some extra added flavor stir in with peanut butter chips or chocolate chips.
  • Dip the treats in melted chocolate, almond bark or candy coating - yum! White chocolate chips or dark chocolate, pink candy melts. The melted candy makes it a super fun treat!
  • Place them on a lollipop stick and make Rice Krispie pops! Wrap individually for gift giving.

How to store leftovers

Store these delicious treats for up to one week at room temperature. Be sure to keep the treats covered with plastic wrap or place in an air tight container.

Freeze up to three months.

Heart Shaped Rice Krispsie Treats

So festive these are easy Valentine's Day treats. You're going to love this fun recipe!

Equipment

  • Heart Shaped Cookie Cutters

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 10 ounce package marshmallows about 40 or 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • ¼ cup sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare 13x9x2 inch cake pan, spray with non-stick coating, line with parchment paper, set aside.
  • In large saucepan over low heat melt butter.
  • Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  • Add the crispy cereal into the marshmallow butter mixture. Stir until well coated. Add in a little more than half the sprinkles, mix again.
  • Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into baking dish. Spread remaining sprinkles over the top of the Rice Krispie treats. Allow to cool completely.
  • Carefully remove treats from pan, cut into heart shaped treats.
  • Take scrapes, push back together and flatten, using cookie cutters, cut into additional treats. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Tips:
  • You can use regular or mini marshmallows, I find that regular marshmallows give the best results.
  • You can use any brand of crispy cereals, generic brands work great!
