What makes this recipe irresistible

This tasty snack is perfect for family get-togethers, holidays or after-school snacks. I serve these at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a must-make! With only three ingredients, it's an easy, affordable appetizer.

Ingredients to make recipe, with print overlay.

Ingredients you’ll need

For the exact measurements, please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • cream cheese or whipped cream cheese
  • Whole pickles or use a pickle spear if you want to stretch out the pickles. Just be sure to dry them well.
  • Ham slices - I prefer black forest ham but you could also use honey ham. The rectangle packaged ham works best.

Creative variations to try

  • Replace the cream cheese with flavored cream cheese such as garlic and herb or chive and onion.
  • Add some chopped green onion, fresh dill, diced tomatoes, roasted red peppers, or ranch seasoning to the cream cheese for a flavor and color boost.
  • Sprinkle with paprika or crushed red pepper flakes to the cream cheese mixture or a little heat.

Top Tip

It's important you dry the slices of ham and whole dill pickles with a paper towel before assembling the roll-ups. This will help keep them from becoming soggy.

  • When it comes to the size of the pickle use large pickles (not smaller gerkin pickles).
  • The cream cheese should be spread in a thin layer on the ham slices, otherwise, you risk them becoming too cheesy and heavy.
  • If the roll-ups are opening, use toothpicks to hold them together.

How to store leftovers

The pickle wraps can be left at room temperature for no more than two hours.

Refrigerate - Place the pickle roll-ups in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh and are best enjoyed within 24 hours.
