  • cheddar cheese pierogies
  • jarred Alfredo sauce

  • crispy bacon crumbles
  • Ranch dressing mix or Italian seasoning mix

Creative variations to try

  • Top with French-fried onions for a crispy topping! (I really enjoy the casserole this way!)
  • Adding fresh spinach or broccoli florets or frozen broccoli will make mealtime easier.
  • Do you prefer a creamier sauce? Add a can of cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup with ¼ cup of chicken broth. (Do not dilute the soup with water.)

Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)

I forgot to thaw the perogies, can I still make this casserole?

You can make this casserole if you forget to thaw the pierogis. Add 5-10 minutes to the cooking time. Bake until hot and bubbly.

Can the chicken pierogi casserole be made in the crockpot?

Absolutely, it would be easy to make the slow cooker. Follow the instructions as written and spoon the mixture into the crockpot. Top with cheese and crispy bacon. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or until hot and bubbly.

Deb’s tips for the perfect dish

Make sure this is plenty saucy before baking. You never want to serve a dry casserole!

  • If you prefer crispy pierogis, fry them first in a little butter until golden brown.

How to store leftovers

Refrigerate - Cover the casserole dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to three days.

Freezer - This dish freezes great! Place in an airtight container and freeze up to three months. You can even prepare the casserole ahead of time and freeze. Be sure to allow it to completely thaw (in the refrigerator) before baking. You may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

Reheat - You can reheat this in the oven or microwave (use a microwave safe container). I prefer to use the oven as it will re-crisp the bacon a bit.
