What makes this recipe irresistible

If you're a fan of sprouts, you're going to love this super tasty crispy Brussels sprouts recipe! It's an easy recipe and my favorite way to roast vegetables. No more soggy, bland vegetables here!

Roasting makes them crunchy and flavorful. The edges become crispy and caramelized, the flavor is nutty and delicious! Even your veggies haters might like these sprouts! It's the ranch seasoning mix. 😋

Recipe ingredients

Ingredients you’ll need

For the exact measurements for the best oven roasted brussel sprouts recipe, please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post!

  • Fresh brussels sprouts
  • olive oil
  • Ranch salad dressing mix - I've used Hidden Valley Ranch Mix and Uncle Dan's - either are great.

Creative variations to try

These are so simple, but there are several variations to amp up the flavor! Here are some ways to jazz up this Oven Roasted Brussel Sprouts Recipe

  • Add your favorite vegetables - carrots, potatoes and onions will roast at the same temperature and become a great roasted vegetable mixture.
  • Parmesan Cheese - add a sprinkle of ¼ cup of parmesan cheese for the last 10 minutes of cooking. It browns nicely and adds great cheesy goodness!
  • Lemon - lemon zest and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice right when they come out of the oven. It brightens the flavors and adds a great touch of savory to the sweetness of the roasted vegetables.
  • Top with a drizzle of melted butter for richness.
  • Red Pepper Flakes - add a ¼ teaspoon prior to roasting. It adds a just a hint of heat.
  • Bacon - of course! Use 4-5 slices chopped into small pieces. Toss with the sprouts and bake with the sprouts. Because they bake in just about the same of time. If you want to really make them special when this comes out of the oven toss with a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup, YUM!
  • Drizzle with a balsamic glaze the instant they come out of the oven. That acidity of balsamic vinegar compliments the sweetness of the sprouts!

Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)

How do you choose the best ones?

Sprouts are sold loose, prewashed in a bag or on the stalk. Look for vegetables that are bright green and firm, avoid ones with limp or brown leaves.

When do brussel sprouts go bad?

Certainly they can spoil and as best if used within the first couple of days you bring them home. When you do, refrigerate immediately. They will spoil more quickly if left on the counter.

Can I make this recipe with frozen brussel sprouts?

Actually you can! Thaw the sprouts completely and pat them dry. Roasting frozen brussel sprouts is easy, just season with the ranch dressing and pepper and bake as directed. They may not caramlize as well because they have been frozen.

Deb’s tips for the perfect dish

When roasting be sure to place the cut side down. That's how you get that wonderful caramelization!

  • Make sure the sprouts are completely dry so they roast and not steam.
  • Slice the larger sprouts in half, leave smaller sprouts whole.
  • I do not recommend freezing them, they get mushy.
  • Make sure you get the dry seasoning mix, not premade salad dressing.

How to store and reheat

  • Refrigerate sprouts when you bring them home. Store in the refrigerator with damp towel in a plastic bag in the vegetable drawer. Brussels sprouts can be refrigerated in a ventilated plastic bag for about a week.
  • After cooking, allow them to cool completely and place in an airtight container. They will keep in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
  • Reheat - preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes until reheated and crispy.

Once cooked they don't freeze well, they become squishy and soggy. They are best eaten fresh.

I have to confess I only made these because my mom was visiting and she likes brussel sprouts. I don't. Or at least I didn't, but these are pretty good!
