Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)
The dumplings in this recipe require leavening, and using Bisquick (or baking flour) is the easiest way to do so in the Chicken and Dumplings Casserole. You can make your own Bisquick by whisking together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 ½ tsp. baking powder, and ¼ tsp. salt. You can also substitute the Bisquick with 1 cup of self-rising flour.
Absolutely! What matters most here is your preference. Cream of chicken can be substituted with cream of celery or cream of mushroom soup.
I love using rotisserie chicken because it’s already cooked, and it makes prep a snap! You can choose to cook chicken breasts or thighs, shred them, and use them for this recipe, or you can even substitute with leftover turkey! Just be sure that the protein is cooked before adding it to the casserole dish.
Deb's tips for the perfect dish
Bisquick or baking flour is required for this recipe. All-purpose flour will not work.
How to store leftovers
Refrigerate - Store in refrigerator for up to three days.
Freezer - Freezer storage is not recommended for this casserole. It will just get soupy and not reset.
Reheat - You can reheat individual servings in the microwave. If you're reheating a large portion of the casserole, reheat in the oven.

In the photos, it looks like there is melted cheese on top. Is that correct?
Debra Clark says
Actually, there's no melted cheese on top, that's the golden color from the cream of chicken soup. Enjoy the recipe!!
