Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

How do you make a cake mix taste homemade?

Boxed cake mix is a fantastic shortcut, but with just a few tweaks you can take it from "good" to "is this from scratch?" One of the most popular tricks is adding a box of instant Jell-O pudding to the mix. The pudding gives the cake extra moisture, richness, and a tender crumb that feels bakery-quality.

Sour cream, an extra egg, or swapping water for milk can add even more flavor and texture. And don't forget mix-ins like chocolate chips, fruit, or nuts-those little extras make the cake feel truly homemade.

Glazing and decorating

Bundt cakes are basically a blank canvas, and the toppings or glazes are where you can really have fun! Here are some of great options to dress them up:

Classic Glazes

Powdered Sugar Glaze - Just powdered sugar and milk (or lemon juice). Simple, sweet, and drips beautifully down the ridges. Citrus Glazes like lemon, orange, or lime juice mixed with powdered sugar for a bright, tangy finish. Chocolate Ganache with melted chocolate and cream adds a rich, glossy topping.

Frostings & Creamy Toppings

Cream Cheese Frosting - The Nothing Bundt Cake signature look. Pipe it thick between the ridges for that bakery look. Buttercream Swirls, if you want a more traditional frosted cake vibe. Whipped Cream is light and fluffy, especially good with fruit-topped Bundts.

Dustings & Finishing Touches

Powdered Sugar is the easiest way to make a Bundt cake look elegant. Cocoa Powder or Cinnamon Sugar adds a pop of flavor and color. Shredded coconut or chopped nuts are pretty and adds texture.

Extra-Decadent Options

Caramel or Butterscotch Drizzle - Sweet, sticky, and amazing on apple, pumpkin, or pecan Bundts. Fruit Sauces like strawberry, raspberry, or blueberry compote spooned over each slice. Glazed Berries are always a great choice. Think fresh fruit piled in the center of the Bundt for a show-stopping look, YUM!

How to store and freeze

Storing:

Bundt cakes keep well at room temperature for 3-4 days. Just wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight cake carrier to keep it from drying out. If it has a cream cheese frosting, store it in the refrigerator instead, covered well so it doesn't absorb fridge smells.

Freezing:

Bundt cakes freeze beautifully! Wrap the whole cooled cake (or individual slices) first in plastic wrap, then in foil, or place it in a freezer-safe bag or container. Most Bundt cakes will keep for up to 3 months in the freezer. When you're ready to enjoy, thaw the cake in the fridge overnight, then bring it to room temperature before serving. If it's glazed, you can freeze it as-is, but if it's frosted, it's best to freeze the cake plain and frost after thawing for the freshest look.

Deb's top tips

Grease like your cake depends on it (because it does!). Brush every nook and cranny with butter and flour. (Personally I haven't had the best luck with baking spray and do not recommend) Don't skip this step, it's the difference between a showstopper and a cake stuck in the pan.

Why cake mix is a game changer for bundt cakes

Cake mix takes all the guesswork out of baking and makes Bundt cakes practically foolproof. The mix gives you a reliable base that bakes up moist, fluffy, and evenly every time.

Add-ins like Jell-O pudding, sour cream, or chocolate chips take it from "box" to "bakery," but you don't have to fuss with sifting flour or measuring a dozen ingredients. It's a great shortcut! Easy, consistent, and still leaves plenty of room to make the recipe your own.

Wrapping it up

Bundt cakes really are something special. Easy to bake, always impressive, and endlessly customizable! From chocolatey classics to fruity favorites, there's a Bundt cake for every occasion (and every sweet tooth!). 😋
