Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

What kind of apples should I use?

Whenever I make a pie or cake with apples, I like to use a combination of both sweet and tart apples. I use half granny smith, then half honey crisp, or fuji or some other sweet apple.

How should I cut the apples for apple cake?

The apples will need to be peeled and cored. Then diced into small ½" cubes, no bigger.

Deb's tips for the perfect dish

Don't skip the apple pie spice. It adds a subtle caramel flavor.

  • Take your apple tea cake to the next level by toasting the apple pie spice in a dry saucepan over medium heat. You'll know they are ready when you can smell the toasty spices.

How to store leftovers

Refrigerate - Once the cake has cooled completely, store in an airtight container, at room temperature, for up to 5 days. Keep a piece of paper towel in the container, as this type of cake can make a lot of moisture.

Freezer - This cake freezes excellently. Store in a freezer-safe container for up to 6 months.
