Poor Red's

Published: Jul 9, 2014 · Modified: Aug 25, 2020 by Bowl Me Over · 2 Comments

A few weeks ago my hubby and I decided we'd take a trip to Amador County, CA. We wanted to visit his sister and just get away for a little R&R. Since we were early, we decided to do a little wine tasting and see the best that Amador County has to offer! Well, I decided our first stop would be Poor Red's. Poor Red's is a bar (serious dive bar) in Eldorado, CA.

Poor Red's

Poor Red's

It sits in the middle of nowhere - offers food (really bad) but has the most amazing drink called The Golden Cadillac. It's one of those things you just have to cross off your list in life! It's a strange mix of alcohol (especially for a biker bar) served in an old-timey champagne glass - here's the recipe;

The Golden Cadillac

- Ice
- Heavy Cream
- White Creme de Cacao
- Galliano

In a blender with the motor on high blend 5 ice cubes, crushed, 3 tablespoons heavy cream, and 1 ounce each of white creme de cacao and Galliano for 15 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth, and pour the mixture into a chilled saucer-shaped Champagne glass. Makes 1 drink. Go and buy the stuff and whiz this up, seriously....you need to make this! 🙂

I found this recipe online & share this with you because imagine our surprise when we got to Poor Red's and it was closed  Ahhhh!!!! (Rumor says something about tax evasion....) I wanted to take my hubby to experience the ummm "ambiance" of this establishment. Darn, not happy!

Well...as I often say out of life's disappointments sometimes comes the most amazing surprises!

Let me introduce to you the Sugar Lillie Bakery! Situated a few doors down from Poor Red's and tucked behind a clothing shop is this wonderful little bakery. We decided we would like coffee more than a drink anyway and since my hubby is the man with the sweet tooth, this sounded like a good place to stop.

Meet the owner Alisa

It was AMAZING!!! The pastries were sweet and delicious and the coffee hot & fresh. What a wonderful find! We had the opportunity to meet the owner Alisa and got to chatting. She makes amazing delicacies; cookies, cakes, pastries and such. However, they are famous for their Coconut Macaroons.

We bought a dozen!

With & without chocolate

They come dipped in chocolate and without chocolate. Both are amazing!!!

Just a taste!

Just a taste!

Unbelievably fantastic! You know me, I really don't have much of a sweet tooth, but these are addictive!

Relax & enjoy!

Relax & enjoy!

We sat and relaxed for an hour or more. We had the opportunity to sit and talk and make new friends (above!). Next time you're in the area, heck next time you're anywhere near....stop by for a cup of coffee and some amazing sweets! The setting is beautifully eclectic. The sweets - tasty and delicious, so fun! I think sometimes we get tied up in what we think we want - I'm so glad we found the Sugar Lillie Bakery!  I hope you have the opportunity to visit also!
