Equipment

  • cocktail shaker
  • margarita glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila silver or reposado
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz grenadine for a deep red color
  • ½ oz simple syrup optional, for sweetness
  • Ice cubes
  • ¼ cup corn syrup
  • red gel food coloring
  • blood ice cubes (ice cubes made with red food coloring)
  • Lime wedge, blackberries, vampire teeth, etc. (optional garnishes)

Instructions

  • It's best to make the ice cubes the day before. Mix 1 quart of water with several drops of red food coloring until the water turns red. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze until solid.
  • Whisk together the corn syrup with 6-8 drops of the red food coloring. Spoon it onto a small plate. Invert your cocktail glass and generously coat the rim with the "vampire blood". Flip it over and allow the syrup to drip down the side of the glass. Set aside.
  • Mix the drink in a cocktail shaker. Combine tequila, lime juice, grenadine, and simple syrup. Add ice cubes (regular ice cubes) and shake HARD until the mixture is chilled.
  • Fill your glass with blood ice cubes. Strain the mixture into your prepared glass over the ice.
  • Garnish: Add a lime wedge or a few blackberries or vampire fangs (teehee!) to the rim for a festive touch.

Notes

*If you prefer, you can also coat the rim of your glass with colored sugar. Rim the edge of a cocktail glass with a lime wedge, then dip it into red or black sugar to coat.
This cocktail can also be blended. Add the ingredients to a blender and and process until smooth. Pour into your favorite cocktail glass, garnish and enjoy!
