Ingredients

Please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the exact measurements to make air fryer-fried shrimp.

  • shrimp - purchase large shrimp or jumbo shrimp 16-20 count. You can use fresh shrimp or frozen shrimp that have been thawed. Smaller shrimp will work as well, but you'll need to reduce the cooking time.
  • olive oil - helps crisp up the shrimp
  • parmesan cheese - take an extra moment and grate the cheese. It will have better flavor than pre-shredded
  • parsley - adds a wonderful freshness
  • salt, pepper, garlic powder - Or if you'd prefer use Old Bay Seasoning or lemon garlic - both would be delicious!

Instructions

This is an overview of the instructions. For complete instructions, check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post!

Air Fryer Instructions

  1. If the raw shrimp is not peeled, peel the shrimp and pat dry.
  2. Mince parsley and grate the cheese, and place in a small bowl.
  3. Add to a bowl, and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Toss everything together and place the shrimp in the air fryer basket. Roast in the fryer for 12 minutes

Oven roasted shrimp

No air fryer? No problem! Roast the shrimp in the oven instead.

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees,
  2. Follow the directions above for preparation. Spread the shrimp out on a baking sheet and roast for 10-12 minutes until just pink.

Having said that, I'm honestly head-over-heels about the air fryer. It's quick and easy, doesn't make a huge mess.

FAQ's

What size shrimp do I buy?

Shrimp are sold by size; the numbers mean how many shrimp add up equal a pound. I purchased jumbo shrimp for this recipe, 16-20 count shrimp. It's what I recommend for this recipe.

How long to cook shrimp in the air fryer?

Jumbo peeled shrimp will take 12 minutes in the air fryer.

Can I cook frozen shrimp in the air fryer?

You can, but I recommend allowing the shrimp to thaw to you can incorporate all the flavors of the garlic parmesan - yum!!

Top Tip

If you aren't familiar with an Air Fryer, it is a small, compact convection oven that circulates hot air around a basket that holds your food. It's an easy-to-use countertop appliance. It produces crispy food quickly with less fat than a deep fryer!

  • Purchasing fresh peeled and deveined shrimp will make this meal quick and easy. Frozen shrimp is also great and easily available.
  • Tails on/tails off? That's up to you! There's no difference in flavor. If you're serving this as an appetizer, tails on would make it easier to eat (finger food!) and more visually appealing.

Serving suggestions

  • This is great appetizer served with Shrimp Cocktail Sauce.
  • We enjoyed the crispy fried shrimp for dinner with vegetables and rice.
  • Bow Tie Pasta Salad, Macaroni Pasta Salad or Mexican Cole Slaw would all be great served with the air fryer shrimp recipe. Yum!

Love your air fryer? Be sure to make this recipe with a side of Air Fryer Garlic Bread, it will go great with this shrimp!

    Recipe backstory

The other day a big box arrived at the door. I opened it up and was excited to get an air fryer from Hamilton Beach! I took it out and proudly set it on the counter and pointed it out to Dan. He looked at it and said:

    Luke... I am your Fryer!

Yup! I could see the resemblance, this does look a little like Darth Vader!

    That Dan, he's a funny guy!!! ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£

Have been seriously thinking about Air fryers. Hubby and I love crunchy, "fried" things but we both do not enjoy all the grease! This looks amazing!
Our first treat would most likely be french fries, maybe even sweet potato fries.
