When life gives you lemons….
Ok…truth be told in the fairly recent past, life was tough. Everything about my world had changed overnight, but with the support of wonderful family & friends, I survived, moved forward and I’ve never looked back. During a particular bleak moment, as I was relaying details to a friend, I was still trying to put a positive spin on it and he said – Deb….you’re getting really good at making lemonade outa lemons! I’ve always remembered that statement from my friend Jay & continue to try and live life with a positive attitude!
Fast forward to the present. Recently, my Mom-in-Law called to say Deb, you need to come by & pick all these lemons and it brought me back to that moment.
Wow, one GIANT pile of lemons! What am I going to do with all of these lemons? Hmmm…..I could juice them, how much lemon juice do I really need in my freezer? I could grill them – which I did & put over fish….delicious! Hmmm… what a girl could do….luckily my Cousin Wayne sent me his Lemon Drop Martini recipe.
Now we’re talking! Here’s the recipe –
Lemon Drop Martini
- 3 parts good vodka*
- 1 1/2 parts simple syrup
- 1 1/2 parts fresh lemon juice*
- Combine Vodka, simple sugar & lemon juice in a martini shaker (or mason jar will work in a pinch!) full of ice and shake until frothy (about 10-15 good shakes). That’s it – serve in a chilled glass. Cheers!
*Use good vodka – my cousin likes Citron, my hubby swears by Stoli. Also – fresh lemon juice. Makes ALL the difference! Simple syrup is 1 part water, 1 part sugar. In a medium saucepan combine sugar & water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat & cool.
