Food trends and what’s cooking in 2017?
A new trend is emerging not just here in the Central Valley of California but across the United States and that’s meals in a bowl. This trend has become popular and I predict it will continue to grow in 2017!
Bowls are popular because they are filled with grains, crunchy veggies, lean proteins and are topped with a tasty sauce. It’s a great and convenient way to dive right in your meal.
Many of our local restaurants are showcasing this trend. One is Pokiland, a Hawaiian Fusion restaurant where sushi meets poke. Another restaurant is Farm Fresh Bowls, serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner in bowl – offering both sweet and savory fare.
Why are bowls so popular? They are an easy way to control portions and are more visually appealing than a plate full of food.
Great bowls start with a healthy portion of whole grains – think rice, quinoa or farro – all adding fiber and volume to fill you up! The star of the show is the produce and you pile it on. Fresh crunchy vegetables like edamame, spinach, shredded carrots, grilled vegetables, you get the idea! Meat usually tops the bowl, but it no longer takes center stage. Often times meats are sliced or even diced so you get a bit with every bite. Bowls are topped off with a saucy sauce to add big flavor to an easy meal. Nuts or seeds add a crunchy bite to keep the meal satisfying.
A meal in a bowl I shared last year was my delicious Easy Chicken Teriyaki Bowl Recipe – simple to put together, it’s an easy meal in a bowl!
To learn more about food trends….I’ll be attending Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco this year!
This will be an amazing opportunity to meet with vendors, experience new bites and learn what’s hot and what’s not for 2017!
Meeting up with fellow foodies, it will be a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and gain fresh new perspective on the food industry. Several of my colleagues have been to the show and have told me to wear comfy shoes, stretchy pants and be sure to bring my appetite! That I can do! 😀 There will be hundreds of vendors at the show sampling everything from honey, crackers, chocolate and sweets, coffee, tea, specialty meats and everything in-between!
I’m excited to come back and share new ideas and of course some pictures! Pretty sure I will be in foodie heaven!
So in recap, I’m going to be sharing with you more bowls – not just soups in 2017. One delicious bowl recipe later this week! Stay tuned for more exciting foodie info & recipes! Can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned and more great recipes with you!!!
