I don’t like sweets. There…I said it! I know I’m a freak of nature, but it’s true. It’s been that way as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a little girl we would go to the lake every summer to visit my Grandparents and there was always dessert at both lunch & dinner (or dinner & supper as they say in the Midwest). My Grandma REALLY likes sweets (she’s a sugar pusher) and just can’t seem to get enough. Even back then she was so concerned that I wouldn’t take dessert and I think it became her challenge to find something I’d like. About the only thing I’d succumb to would be rhubarb pie and I think that’s because of the whole sweet/tart thing. Now granted, she does make the most wonderful brownies in the world and though I think they are terrific, still….just not my thing.
Dial it back a couple of months. In case you didn’t know, I’m a newlywed! Just got married to a wonderful, kind man and we’ve begun building our lives together. Life is very exciting! Well, what’s a girl to do that doesn’t enjoy sweets, at her wedding? Of course we HAD to have a cake. Just to make sure we got something that would be especially wonderful I brought my BFF Karen to help me do the tasting and she made sure I picked out just the right flavors!
We had a very unique cake – commemorating when & were we met. EHarmony match-up, yup – that’s the truth!
And just in case someone wasn’t wowed by the chocolate cake with raspberry filling (I think it was something fancy.) We had salted caramel cupcakes too.
Another view, are you salivating?
Karen you did me proud!
Now I’ve married a man who is a sugar-holic. And my new Mom-in-Law (just like Grandma) is a sugar pusher. She considers it her personal challenge to make sure her son gets his daily portion of sweets!
I’m working on it. I’d much rather cook than bake – no doubt about it! But last night I made cookies for my sweetie! (Pretty proud of myself.) I can’t remember the last time I baked cookies and he was happy (he was even happier having one for breakfast this morning….)
Dark chocolate salted cookies. Yeah, they hit the spot!
